Facade Jardin Aigrepont du potager Vue Octavie

The mansion that will welcome you is home to descendants of the same family since it was built in 1640, shortly before the birth of Louis XIV. In the eighteenth century, two mayors of Moulins were born from that same family, the Vernin d'Aigrepont. Each room is dedicated to the memory of an ancestor.

Achille

Naval officer, Chevalier of St. Louis, Achille Vernin d'Aigrepont has shown great bravery during the War of Independence of the United States. He was born in Moulins in 1761, enrolled in the Navy in 1780. Off the Indies, he was wounded April 12, 1782 during the Battle of Provedien aboard the Sphinx, which, together with the Orient whose veil caught fire in the fighting, was protecting the ship of the Bailli de Suffren within a 12 ship fleet brought against the English Admiral Hughes. He was appointed ensign in 1784 following his good deeds on the Sphinx, then lieutenant of the Alexandre in 1786.

Octavie

Octavie Vernin d’Aigrepont, daughter of André Achille, Count of Aigrepont, born in 1821, married the Marquis de Barthelat son of Gilbert de Barthelat also known as "Brasdefer". Her daughter Gabrielle is an ancestor of the current owners of Aigrepont.

Bras de fer

Gilbert de Barthelats, also known as Bras de fer (Iron arm), fought against the revolutionary violence that led the aunts of Octavie, his daughter, to the guillotine in Paris in 1793. He intercepted the collectors sent to Paris during Terror times to send the funds to the King. The Empire did not blame him for it and he became purveyor of horses for the Grand Army. His son Jean-Louis married Octavia, the ancestor of the current owners of Aigrepont.
